about BTC --
Banff Theatre Collective was founded in 2016 as a BanffLIFE drop in program for the Town of Banff.
The group was created by Timothy Eckmier to encourage members of the Banff community to meet once a week to inspire theatre creation in the Bow Valley.
What started as a small group, playing theatre games and watching shows together, has grown into a company that provides many ways for Banff locals to get involved in theatre both on and off stage. We continue to encourage valued connections with local companies and theatre partners in Alberta.
We still run our free weekly drop in program, just like how we started, every Sunday night. We believe that anyone and everyone should feel welcome to come out and play with us no matter what their previous experience is.
We have grown to create children’s theatre, our beloved annual sketch comedy shows for Christmas and The Banff Buy and Sell Sketch Comedy, competed in several One Act Play Festivals and 24 hour short play challenges. We have produced short films in collaboration with The Banff Centre, self-written new plays and adaptations, and created local improv troupes who perform weekly shows in Banff. We have encouraged writing and new play development, spawned and mentored new directors, improv groups and theatre companies around the world.
We are fortunate to be doing what we love in a place we love. We believe something can come from nothing, all that’s required is a spark and a space to play.
We would like to thank the Banff and Canmore community for continuing to give us valued support and love over the years.
